Philter

philter \FIL-ter\, noun:

1. A magic potion for any purpose.
2. A potion, charm, or drug supposed to cause the person taking it to fall in love, usually with some specific person.

Philter originates from the Greek philtron, “love potion,” which itself derives from the Greek philos “love of.”

This man wanted to be in love forever. He asked his mother, a witch, to make him a philter to do the trick. Unfortunately for him, his mother (a terrible, spiteful old woman) made him a philter that made him love himself, and himself only. He died alone, but full of love for himself.
