Farouche

farouche \fa-ROOSH\, adjective:

1. Sullenly unsociable or shy.
2. Fierce.

Farouche derives from the Late Latin foasticus, “without, out of doors.”

Molly Hallestrøm was a pretty but diffident girl of fifteen, living in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was self-conscious about all sorts of small things: the way her knees touched when she stood straight, the width of her feet, how red her ears became when she spoke out loud in class.

On her sixteenth birthday, she met a farouche young man named Andrey Bellkose. He was 24, drank gin, and had a driver’s license. Molly’s world changed forever.
